The Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment is dedicated to answering crucial questions about impacts of environmental change on terrestrial ecosystems. The Institute offers comprehensive field and laboratory based facilities and is based on the Hawkesbury campus of the University of Western Sydney at the foot of Blue Mountains, a World Heritage Site consisting of numerous national parks and conservation reserves, and close to the city of Sydney.
The Institute is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Microbial Ecology for an active, dynamic individual with expertise in ecological theory and soil function, and/or molecular microbial ecology. The position is funded by an Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery grant entitled ‘Can ecological theory explain microbial regulation of soil function?’ The successful candidate will conduct research into the relationship between microbial diversity and soil function, and refine ecological theory to explain microbial regulation of multiple soil functions. The appointee will therefore require skills in molecular microbial ecology as well as in establishing laboratory microcosms. The position is available for 3 years with the possibility of extension thereafter pending funding availability.
