Two postdoctoral positions are available at the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics of the University of Texas-Houston Medical School to study the molecular mechanisms of mitosis and cytokinesis. We use Trypanosoma brucei, a unicellular microbial eukaryote and the causative agent of human sleeping sickness, as the model system to address the fundamental questions of how mitosis and cytokinesis are regulated and coordinated during cell division. The current focus is on the cell cycle regulatory circuits consisting of Aurora B and Polo-like kinases, two novel motor proteins, and SCF and APC/C ubiquitin ligases. Our long-term goal is to elucidate the molecular and cellular basis of cell division as well as to provide novel targets for chemotherapy. The positions are supported by NIH R01 grant, and salary is based on NIH guidelines. Self-motivated and career-oriented recent Ph.D. graduates with strong background in biochemistry, cell biology and molecular biology are encouraged to apply. Please submit a recent CV and the names and contact information of three referees to Dr. Ziyin Li at Ziyin.Li@uth.tmc.edu
