Applications are invited for a 24-month postdoctoral position at the Departmento of Physics, University of Torino, Italy, in the area of theory and numerical modelling in the nanomechanics of bio-inspired hierarchical materials. The position is part of an ERC IDEAS Starting Grant funded programme, with the aim of designing synthetic (composite) materials with exceptional mechanical properties. The post holder will develop multiscale simulation codes for such problems as the optimization of strength and toughness, self-healing or super-/anti-adhesion in hierarchical composite nanomaterials, analyze examples of biological/bioinspired materials, perform parametric studies for the determination of optimal characteristics and hierarchies for maximization of mechanical properties.
Description
We are looking for applicants with strong experience in numerical modelling, who are interested in joining a multidisciplinary team at the engineering – physical sciences – biological sciences interface. Ideally, applicants should have experience in scientific programming, molecular dynamics simulations and/or Finite Element analysis using commercial software packages (e.g. Comsol, Ansys). Applicants with a PhD in physics, engineering or a related field with good communication skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team should apply. Potential applicants are welcome to contact Federico Bosia (Email: fbosia@to.infn.it) for more information.
