Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work under the supervision of Professor Tim Softley on a research project funded by EPSRC for a period of 2 years. The post is available from 1 August 2013 and should start by 1 October 2013.
The project involves the experimental study of chemical reactions/molecular collisions at very low temperatures (< 10K) and will work particularly with the development and application of equipment such as a Zeeman decelerator, a laser-cooled ion trap and a cryo-cooled electrostatic velocity selector.
You should either already have a PhD in Physical Chemistry or a relevant area of physics, or have submitted your thesis prior to taking up the post. You should be experienced in the use of lasers and vacuum systems, and some experience with other types of technology used in cold atom/molecule experiments, and of instrument design work would be advantageous.
The post will be based in the Chemistry Research Laboratory, Mansfield Road, Oxford.
Only applications received by 12.00 midday on 4 July 2013 can be considered. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your application.
The University of Oxford and the Department of Chemistry are Athena SWAN bronze award holders.
Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and ethnic minority candidates, who are under-represented in Chemistry research posts in Oxford.
