We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Therapeutic Ultrasound to join the Biomedical Ultrasonics, Biotherapy and Biopharmaceuticals Laboratory (BUBBL) within the Oxford Institute of Biomedical Engineering, Department of Engineering Science (Headington). The post is funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (2013-2018) and is currently fixed-term for 12 months with possible extension.
A collaboration between the University of Oxford and the University of Leeds, the project seeks to develop a novel ultrasound-based therapy for minimally invasive replacement of intervertebral discs. You will be responsible for the development, integration and testing of a triple-purpose prototype ultrasound system involving diagnostic imaging, therapeutic pulse delivery and real-time treatment mapping.
You should possess a PhD in therapeutic ultrasound or other relevant area of biomedical engineering or medical physics, as well as prior experience of working in experimental biomedical ultrasonics. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to enable you to contribute effectively to a collaborative and highly multi-disciplinary environment are also required. Prior experience of monitoring bubble activity during ultrasound therapy and of assessing ultrasound-induced bioeffects in vitro and in vivo are also desirable.
Informal enquiries may be addressed to Professor Constantin Coussios (email: constantin.coussios@eng.ox.ac.uk).
Only applications received before 12.00 midday on 3 July 2013 can be considered. You will be required to upload a covering letter, a brief statement of research interests (describing how past experience and future plans fit with the advertised position), CV and details of two referees as part of your online application.
The Department holds an Athena Swan Bronze award, highlighting its commitment to promoting women in Science, Engineering and Technology.
Closing Date: 03-JUL-13
