A postdoctoral position is currently available at the University of Michigan Geriatric Center to study molecular genetics of aging and age-related functional decline using the nematode C. elegans as model organism.
Our ongoing research is focused on the following three major themes: (1) The role of heat-shock transcription factor (HSF) in longevity regulation (Hsu et al. Science, 300: 1142-5; Chiang et al, Cell, 148: 322-4). (2) The role of sirtuins in stress response and aging (Chiang et al, PLoS Genetics, 8: e1002948). (3) Genes involved in the longevity response to dietary restriction (Ching et al, Aging Cell, 9: 545-57).
M.D. or Ph.D. degree in genetics, cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry or related fields is required. Candidates should be highly motivated and comfortable with using multiple techniques to solve complex problems. Strong verbal and written English communication skills are essential. Experience in biochemistry, genetics or worm biology is highly desirable.
