Two postdoctoral positions are available to join the group of Matias Simons. The group investigates the mechanisms controlling planar cell polarity as well as lysosomal signaling using cell culture, Drosophila melanogaster and mouse as experimental models [EMBO J. 2013 Jan 23;32(2):245-59.; Dis Model Mech. 2013 May;6(3):689-700; Current Biology 2010 Jul 27;20(14):1269-76, Nat Cell Biol. 2009 Mar;11(3):286-94, Annu Rev Genet. 2008;42:517-40, Nat Genet. 2005 May;37(5): 537-43]. We are particularly interested in the role of these processes in inherited kidney and lysosomal storage diseases. The lab is currently located at the Center for Systems Biology (ZBSA), Renal Division, University Hospital Freiburg. In 2014, the group will move to the newly established Institut Imagine in Paris. Imagine is an interdisciplinary research center in molecular medicine in the Necker Enfants-Malades University Hospital campus. It will open in the fall of 2013 in the heart of the left bank of Paris and offer cutting-edge research facilities. Imagine is supported by a Foundation with a focus on rare genetic diseases, their biology and their life-long outcomes to address unmet basic and clinical research questions.
Candidates for the advertised postdoc positions should be holders of PhD, MD or both degrees. Ideally, they should have experience with Drosophila genetics and modern imaging methodologies. Successful candidates are expected to be highly motivated, to work independently, to have good communications skills and to be interested in basic cell biology with clinical impact. As we are an international lab, command of English language is a requirement. Candidates should have at least one first author paper published, in press, or submitted.
Positions are already available within the next months. Therefore, employment begin can either be in Freiburg or later in Paris.
