University of Cambridge
Postdoctoral Research Associate in Neurobiology / Biophysics (Fixed Term)
£27,854 – £36,298 pa
This postdoctoral position at the interface between neurobiology and biophysics is available immediately in the lab of Kristian Franze. The lab combines biophysical and cell biological approaches to understand the influence of physical cues on the functioning and malfunctioning of the nervous system.
The project aims at investigating the role of mechanical cues in neuronal regeneration. Neuronal mechanosensitivity will be studied as well as the mechanical environment of
neurons in vivo using a variety of techniques including atomic force microscopy and confocal laser scanning microscopy.
The successful candidate should hold a PhD in biophysics, cell or neurobiology, physics, engineering or a related subject with sound knowledge in cell biology or experimental biophysics. Experience with small animal (e.g., rats or lower vertebrates) surgery, vibratomes, Matlab, and/or primary neuronal cultures, as well as with atomic force microscopy or electrophysiology would be an advantage. Motivation to work in a
multidisciplinary environment is fundamental to this position. An ability to independently take responsibility over his/her own project as well as good teamwork and communication skills are expected.
The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
This appointment is subject to a health assessment. Whether an outcome is satisfactory will be determined by the University.
Closing date: 14 July 2013.
