Major/Essential Duties of Job

Conduct experiments to develop bacteriophage plaque assay system for liberibacter species and to isolate, purify and conduct genomic analysis of bacteriophage genomes. Work with plant and insect systems as needed. Greenhouse work as needed.

Occasional Duties

Analyze date, prepare statistical analyses and summarize data for use in submission to journals and other scientific publications. Performs computer data entry and analyses using statistical software. Other Duties as Required.

Required Education:
PhD in Plant Pathology or related field.

Preferred Education:
PhD in Microbiology, Biochemistry or related field.

Required Experience:
Experience in microbiological techniques and bacterial genetics. Bacterial transformation and general molecular biology techniques.

Required special knowledge, abilities, and skills:
Familiarity with appropriate laboratory, farm and/or technical equipment. Ability to effectively utilize a computer and applicable software to create databases, perform statistical analyses, present data and perform other computer related tasks as directed by the supervisor. Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred special knowledge, abilities, and skills:
Publications in peer reviewed journals that demonstrate knowledge in bacterial genetics. Bacterial genetics background and working knowledge of bacteriophage biology. Ability to work in a collaborative research environment.

Other requirements or other factors:
This is a full-time position contingent upon renewed grant funding.
