We invite applications for an exciting short-term post-doctoral opportunity to join an internationally leading research consortium comprising experts from University College London, the Institute of Cancer Research, and the University of Oxford who have developed a state-of-the-art system for image-guided, high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) for treating abdominal cancers. The post holder will have the opportunity to gain further experience in the fields of therapeutic ultrasound and image-guided interventions by working closely with leaders in these fields.
The main purpose of this post is to design and conduct experiments to test and validate a prototype system for delivering high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) therapy for the treatment of abdominal cancers, principally liver cancer. The system embodies the outputs of EPSRC-funded research conducted by a UK-based university consortium led by internationally recognised experts in the field.
This post is funded by The Prostate Cancer Charity for 6 months.
All candidates must possess a PhD in a relevant area of Engineering, Computer Science, Medical Physics, or a closely related subject, and be able to demonstrate excellent software and systems engineering skills with a strong ability in mathematics. Excellent communication and team-working skills are essential. All candidates must be able to demonstrate a high level of proficiency in computer programming using C/C++ and MATLAB, and possess a good working knowledge of digital image processing (for example, evidenced by a postgraduate degree or equivalent industrial or academic experience in image processing/analysis, computer vision, or a related area). A good understanding of medical ultrasound imaging and therapy is highly desirable but is not an essential requirement.
To be appointed at Grade 8 (Senior Research Associate) candidates must demonstrate significant experience within the field.
