Postdoc in Biophotonics
A 24 month postdoctoral position is available in the Microenvironmental Ecology group. We are looking for a young talented scientist (who obtained his/her PhD within the last 3 years) experienced in experimental and/or theoretical aspects of biophotonics, tissue optics and light propagation in scattering media.
The Microenvironmental Ecology Group has worked for >20 years with microscale light measurements in sediments, biofilms and coral tissues containing microalgal symbionts and we have extensive data on the apparent optical properties of such multiple scattering systems and how this affect photosynthesis. Some samples of publications include:
Sediment optics:

Fiber-optic microsensors:

Coral optics:

Imaging:

However, we lack insight to the inherent optical properties and have yet to develop/apply theoretical analysis of light propagation in these systems. Tissues in many ways have similar optical properties as the systems we work with, and we would like to recruit a person with a background in biophotonics, (bio)physics or engineering to help apply methods and models from tissue optics onto natural biofilms and coral tissues.
The postdoc will be hired at University of Copenhagen (http://www.ku.dk/english), with workplace in the Microenvironmental Ecology Group (http://www.mbl.ku.dk/mkuhl/) at the Marine Biology Section (http://www1.bio.ku.dk/english/research/marinebiology/) of the Department of Biology (http://www1.bio.ku.dk/english/).
Part of the work will also take place in collaboration with the biophotonics group at the nearby Lund University (http://www.atomic.physics.lu.se/biophotonics), with an option for work periods at the University of Technology Sydney (http://www.c3.uts.edu.au).
The position is now open for search after suitable candidates with an aim to facilitate a start of the postdoctoral position in 2013.
