The Department of History at Rice University in Houston, Texas, invites applications for a one-year postdoctoral fellowship in Ottoman and/or modern Middle East history. This fellowship is renewable for a second year upon successful completion of the first year.
The successful candidate is expected to teach three courses per academic year and participate in the intellectual life of the department and other units on campus, as well as make significant progress in research. Houston area residency during the fellowship term is required. S/he will receive a stipend of $50,000 plus benefits, a research and relocation fund of $2,000 in the first year, and a research fund of $750 in the second year (pending renewal of the contract). Applicants must have received their PhD in history or a related field within the last five years or at the latest by July 1, 2014. This position begins on July 1, 2014.

Experience may not be substituted for the education requirement.
