Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the John Innes Centre as part of a team discovering new biosynthetic pathways in actinomycete bacteria and developing novel bioengineering strategies for the optimisation and exploitation of bacterial natural products.
Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent postdoctoral experience in the identification and isolation of natural products from fermentation broths and their structural characterisation using NMR and MS techniques. An understanding of natural products biosynthesis is essential and any biochemistry and molecular biology skills relevant to the study of biosynthesis and biosynthetic engineering would be advantageous.
The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team in the Molecular Microbiology Department focused on the discovery of new biosynthetic pathways, chemistry & enzymology, and new molecular targets for exciting biologically active compounds. Taking advantage of the tools and technologies from synthetic biology it is envisaged that new bioengineering approaches can be developed to increase the structural diversity of natural product scaffolds and to optimise heterologous expression platforms, ultimately delivering new molecules with valuable properties. The applications of these new natural products will be explored in collaboration with a network of scientists in both academia and industry.
Salary on appointment will be within the range £28,100 to £34,430 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This post is for a contract of 36 months.
The closing date for applications will be 31st July 2013.
The John Innes Centre is a registered charity (No. 223852) grant-aided by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council and is an Equal Opportunities Employer.
