Research/Outreach:
To enhance the mission of the Department of Sociology and the Center for Rural Studies, the fellow will maintain her/his own active research program and benefit from opportunities to collaborate on current research projects with Center-affiliated faculty and staff. The fellow will also have the opportunity to develop, coordinate, and/or facilitate research-based outreach programs within his or her specialization or in coordination with Center-affiliated faculty and staff.
Teaching:
The successful candidate will teach two on-line or hybrid undergraduate or graduate courses per semester depending on departmental needs. Courses will be assigned according to candidate’s area of expertise but may include Principles of Sociology, Introduction to Ethnic Studies, Sociology of Health and Illness, Research Methods, or Statistics. Evidence of excellence (or promise of excellence) in teaching is required. Previous experience in the delivery of on-line courses is desirable.
Educational Requirements for the Position
A PhD in sociology or a closely related discipline must be completed by the time of appointment. Applicants must have an established research agenda leading to publications in refereed journals and must demonstrate the potential to acquire extramural funding.

Other Requirements for the Position
Area of specialization within health and health care are open, but particular attention will be given to those candidates with research expertise in community health, immigrant/minority health, rural health, cancer and obesity research, health disparities, and health policy.
