POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, Institute for Medical Engineering and Science (IMES)-Harvard-MIT Division of Health Science and Technology (HST)-Edelman Laboratory, to join a lab that integrates the fields of vascular biology, tissue engineering, and biomedical engineering. The laboratory uses elements of continuum mechanics, digital signal processing, molecular biology, and polymeric controlled release technology to examine the cellular and molecular mechanisms that transform stable coronary-artery disease to unstable coronary syndromes. Professor Artzi’s group explores the impact of tissue microenvironment on material performance and utilizes environmental modifications manifested by a disease to rationally design smart responsive materials that help induce healing and regeneration. Publications are available at http://web.mit.edu/hst-program/erelab/ . The project aims to develop new therapies for skin regeneration. We will develop smart biomaterials that can adhere to and induce the healing of skin and potentially other internal soft tissues. Materials would also enable the local and controlled release of drugs in demand. This multidisciplinary project will cover aspects of biomaterials, drug delivery, cell biology, and animal studies. As the project is performed in collaboration with a major industrial enterprise, the postdoc will be able to interface with industry and learn about regulatory and translational considerations in material design.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: a Ph.D. and/or M.D. in materials science, molecular biology, immunology, or related field; personal interest in translational research; hands-on multidisciplinary experience in cell biology and small animal models; ability to work both independently and in team settings; exceptional written and verbal communication skills; self-motivation; and demonstrated productivity. Experience in skin regeneration is a plus. Job #10255
In addition to applying online here, a C.V. and list of references should be sent to professors Natalie Artzi, nartzi@mit.edu and Elazer Edelman, ere@mit.edu.
