Position Description:
The Radiation Oncology Department at Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA is seeking an outstanding post-doctoral fellow to work in the area of cancer and radiation biology. Our laboratory has shown that caloric restriction can augment the response of radiation in breast cancers. We are currently pursuing changes in microRNA expression signatures and epigenetic changes that may be responsible for this response. This is being assessed in a number of in vitro and in vivo models involving hormonally responsive cancers such as breast cancer. Further studies investigating the mechanisms underlying these responses, determining the functional relevance, verifying miRNA gene targets, and validating these findings in vivo are under way. We have already translated our findings into the clinic and are accruing to a clinical trial using a calorie radiation with radiation treatment and will have patient samples for inquiry.
Experience Required:
The candidate must be motivated and interested in our projects. The candidate must have PhD in molecular biology, cell biology or a cancer related field. Although not absolutely necessary, the ideal candidate will preferably have some experience with caloric restriction, epigenetics, microRNA or radiation biology. Expertise in microarray analysis, RT-PCR, ChIP, cloning are also a plus. In addition, qualified candidates should have strong verbal and written communication skills, and a demonstrated record of scientific achievement through peer-reviewed publications. Successful, well-motivated candidates will join a highly interactive, interdisciplinary team of researchers with diverse backgrounds and expertise in a collaborative scientific environment.
