The laboratory of Dr. Ted Ross is seeking to recruit a Post-doctoral Fellow to the Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute of Florida who are interested in research experience in the areas of virology, vaccine development, molecular biology, or immunology to participate in funded projects on influenza vaccine development.
Summary:
Work involves contemporary and emerging technologies in vaccine design and analysis in the new state-of-the-art laboratories. Studies will involve expertise in flow cytometry, innate and cellular immunity, TLR agonists and adjuvants, tissue culture techniques, microneutralization assays, animal manipulations, and molecular cloning. Capacity for independent work and ability to interact productively with colleagues are important.
Candidates with a strong background in the areas of cellular immunology, molecular biology, and virology are encouraged to apply. Strong written and oral communications skills are necessary.
The goal of the VGTI Florida Post-Doctoral Fellowship Program is to provide the mentoring, training, course work, and experiences for fellows to eventually become independently funded global health investigators with the capacity to design, implement, and evaluate innovative global health programs in a collaborative manner. The program in its entirety has 3 levels that defined by reinforcement and intensive training over a set period of time. The Fellow receives training that provides a foundation for a career that involves research, program development and implementation, and policy. The candidate should not be more than two years of postdoctoral training.
Each appointment is for 15 - 21 months, renewable contingent upon funding and satisfactory progress, but cumulative not to exceed 5 years. Additional appointments may be available but are not guaranteed.
Duties:

Designs and performs experiments. Will keep appropriate experimental records and documentation and analyze the results with the Principal Investigator

Analyzes host innate immune response to virus infection

Performs biochemical and molecular analysis of gene expression and signaling leading the interferon antiviral response

Assists in preparation of grant proposals, but is not responsible for generating grant funds.

Participates in publications and presentations as author or co-author.

Develops, adapts, and implements new research techniques and protocols.

Analyzes, interprets, summarizes and compiles data.

performs routine and complex laboratory procedures throughout training period.

Operates and maintains equipment and instruments.

Consults with his/her mentor and presents a research plan at a progress seminar for peer evaluations

Attends seminars and training sessions on various topics

Completion of or within 6 months of an advanced Doctoral (PhD) degree in immunology or biochemistry or related field

Demonstrated ability to participate in collaborative efforts as a member of a diverse research team

Understanding of both computational science as well as a solid grasp on biology, genetics and cell biology
