The research associate will evaluate various analytical and chemometric methods for chemical forensics applications. Chemical forensics involves the source attribution of a chemical (or mixture) of interest by the analysis of the chemical itself. The researcher will obtain a thorough understanding and then evaluate algorithms dealing with feature extraction, pattern recognition, feature selection, and data fusion of instrumental data. The researcher will also conduct experiments and analyze test samples primarily using spectroscopic and chromatographic-based techniques.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years from an accredited college or university. All staff at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory must be able to demonstrate the legal right to work in the United States.
Qualifications
Must be a United States citizen and have the ability to obtain a Q clearance.
The postdoctoral fellow must have an accredited doctoral degree in either chemistry or chemical engineering at the time of hire. The postdoctoral fellow must have in-depth experience applying and developing chemometric methods. In particular, a working understanding of Matlab or other software tools in order to develop easy-to-use chemometric packages is required. Specific experience in as many of the following chemometric areas is highly desirable: factor analysis, curve resolution, Bayesian statistics, support vector machines, genetic algorithms, discriminate analysis, and experimental design. In addition, the research needs to have working experience developing chromatographic instrumental methods for chemical analysis.
