The Medical Research Council Toxicology Unit, located at the University of Leicester, is an internationally renowned institution delivering field-changing mechanistic insights into toxicology and disease. The Unit is equiped with state-of-the-art facilities and offers excellent opportunities for postdoctoral training.
We are looking to appoint a Career Development Fellow to join the Neuronal Model Systems and Neurotoxicity group, (http://www.mrctox.le.ac.uk/research/lia-panman/) led by Dr Lia Panman, to work on a project investigating the mechanisms underlying the selective degeneration of dopamine neurons of the substantia nigra in Parkinson’s disease. We will use embryonic stem (ES) cell and induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cell based models of the disease combined with genome wide expression analysis to get novel insights into the selective sensitivity of the affected neuronal cell populations to toxic insults.
This is a three year training and development position suitable for a scientist who has just completed (or about to complete) their PhD in the field of neurobiology, developmental biology or stem cell biology. You must have significant knowledge using standard techniques in molecular biology and have published, or be about to publish, articles in international journals.
The salary will be in the range £28,083 – £28,984 per annum.
