Join CSIRO - Australia's premier science and technology research organisationCSIRO Process Science and Engineering are seeking to appoint a highly motivated graduate who will conduct research on advanced materials for biological activity. These materials include bioactive materials for use in multidisciplinary fields such as biotechnology, optics, molecular, sensing or microfluidics.
The Materials for Energy, Water and Environment research group at CSIRO, led by Dr Manh Hoang and Dr Anita Hill, specialises in materials synthesis, measurement of material dynamics, and the measurement and prediction of dynamic structure – property relationships. Within this group, you will report to Dr Anita Hill and Dr Paolo Falcaro, and collaborate with national and international researchers.
You will work with a group of chemists, materials engineers, mathematicians, and physicists at CSIRO who are developing methods for tailoring nanostructure and porosity in both hard and soft matter. The long term goal is the development of an advanced understanding and quantification of structure property relationships in advanced materials for biological applications.
More specifically you will:- Synthesise and conduct research on materials with active nanostructures for bio-related applications with the ultimate goal of understanding and quantifying the interactions that govern regimes of active material properties.
- Contribute to the Materials for Energy, Water, and Environment research group within the Surfaces, Thin Films and Interfaces Program.
- Produce high quality scientific and technical outputs including journal articles, conference papers and presentations, patents and technical reports.
- Develop innovative concepts and ideas for further research.
Location: Clayton, VIC
Salary: AU$81K - $88K per annum plus up to 15.4% superannuation
Tenure: 3 years
Ref No: VIC13/03084
You will be mentored by senior scientists as part of CSIRO’s Postdoctoral Fellows Program which aims to train early career scientists for a research role. You will be expected to communicate the outcomes of your research through presentation of results at national and international conferences and publications in relevant scientific journals.
To be successful you will have:
- A PhD in materials science, bio-materials, materials engineering, applied chemistry or related area
- Demonstrated ability to carry out research and publish in the area of novel materials synthesis
- Demonstrated originality, creativity and innovation in solving problems and introducing new directions and approaches;
- Demonstrated ability to combine concepts from multiple disciplines to solve problems
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to publish the results of scientific research in scientific journals.
