The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine-UHealth is home to some of the brightest minds in the world. Our Faculty teach students who represent the future of medicine. Our researchers are discovering breakthrough patient treatments. As an academic medical center, we are proud to serve South Florida, Latin America and the Caribbean. Our physicians represent more than 100 specialties and subspecialties, and have more than one million patient encounters each year.
The Cardiac Signal Transduction and Cellular Biology Laboratory at the Interdisciplinary Stem Cell led by Michael S. Kapiloff, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.H.A., has an opportunity available for a Research Associate II, SOMwho will participate in current research which asks how the formation of multimolecular protein complexes confers specificity in intracellular signaling. A major focus of the lab has been the mAKAP signalosome that facilitates crosstalk between cAMP, calcuium and MAP-kinase signaling pathways and that is important for the induction of myocyte hypertrophy.
(http://pediatrics.med.maimi.edu/childrens-heart-center/research/cardiac-signal-transduction-and-cellular/). A wide range of techniques are being used to address these questions including the biochemical analysis of recombinant proteins in vitro, transfection of primary cardiac myocyte cultures, live cell imaging using novelFRET sensors and the analysis of genetically-modified mouse models. Conduct laboratory methods utilizing the latest methodologies in molecular biology in support of sponsored research. Reviews scientific journals, abstracts and other literature for information applicable to research experiments. Assist in developing new methodology or expand existing ones. Assist in the setup of instruments, material and apparatus and operate laboratory equipment required for specific tests. Work collaboratively within team setting with scientists and post-doctoral associates and provide technical assistance to lab members as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum qualfications are as follows:Ph.D. in biological science, or related area. Although no experience is necessary, experience is preferred in molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology or cardiac physiology, including live cell fluorescent microscopy and/or mouse genetics. Strong analytical, organizational and excellent skills in Computer and English (both verbal and written) required. Any appropriate combination of education, certifications, and/or relevant work experience may be considered.
