The Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence plans to hire a postdoctoral associate to work on a project examining the role of social conversation on the development of human trust and reliance on computer systems. (PIs: Susan Rivers and Charlene Stokes). Ideal start date is September 1, 2013. This is a one-year appointment with renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance and availability of funding.

The Trust Project seeks to understand and improve human trust and reliance on computer systems by creating a deeper social psychological experience for users. This research incorporates multimodal assessment (e.g., facial analysis, EEG, GSR, eye-tracking, self-report, and speech) and a validated emotional skills dialog paradigm (RULER) to explore the risks and benefits associated with using social conversation during human-machine interaction. The postdoctoral associate will be responsible for implementing and evaluating the effects of a virtual tool developed for this project, and reporting the findings in research publications and scholarly presentations.

Ideal candidates will have a Ph.D. in behavioral sciences (social psychophysiology preferred), as well as training and experience in psychophysiological research (ANS – EDA, pupil dilation and CNS – EEG experience desired). Strong quantitative, data analysis and modeling skills using statistical packages (SPSS) is required. In addition to quantitative skills, scientific writing and publishing experience and the ability to work with an interdisciplinary team are essential. Knowledge and interest in emotion and trust, and experience conducting laboratory experiments desired.
