Join a dynamic and creative group to explore a rapidly developing area of research: quality and safety improvement in radiation oncology. The “science of safety” represents some of the most impactful research in medicine, since recent studies have demonstrated a clear link between quality indicators and outcomes in patient treatments. The group has a strong track record of publications and presentations.
This two-year federally-funded postdoctoral appointment will focus on advanced techniques to monitor and improve the quality of radiotherapy treatments. This includes automatic error detection using a Bayesian network approach and in vivo portal dosimetry measurements during radiotherapy treatments. This will be coupled with a quantitative analysis of large near-miss error databases.
Candidates with a PhD in medical physics or related discipline are encouraged to apply. The position is ideal for a recently graduated resident looking to enhance his or her research profile, or for a new PhD graduate whose goal is to enter a residency program, of which UW is one. Programming skills are required and familiarity with clinical processes is preferred.
