Postdoctoral Research Worker
£31,331 – £32,267 per annum, plus £2,323 London allowance per annum.
Applications are invited for the post of Postdoctoral Research Worker in Molecular Neurobiology in the Department of Neuroscience at the IoP. The post holder will pursue research into the molecular basis of schizophrenia. The project will involve the study of human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) derived from schizophrenic patients. The post holder will use cytochemical, molecular genetics and cellular approaches to identify phenotypes associated with these cells, which will help develop novel therapeutic strategies. Research will focus specifically, but not exclusively on the development of neuronal morphology and synapses in culture, and the effects of specific pharmacological treatments on the development of these structures.
Experience of working with neuronal cells, biochemistry and imaging is essential. A strong background in molecular and cell biology or neuroscience is also required. Enthusiastic applicants with a recent PhD and experience in advanced imaging, molecular biology, cell biology or neuroendocrinology are strongly encouraged to apply.
Period of Appointment: Fixed-term contract 1 year.Probation: 6 months.Salary: £31,331 – £32,267 per annum, plus £2,323 London allowance per annum.Annual leave: 27 working days.
This appointment is superannuable under the USS pension scheme. Staff already superannuated under theNHS Superannuation Scheme may opt to remain in that scheme provided an application to do so is received by the NHS scheme trustees within three months of appointment to King’s College London. Alternatively staff may opt to participate in SERPS or take out a personal pension. Please note that the College does not provide an employer’s contribution towards a private pension plan.
