Washington State University – Assistant Professor
The School of Food Science, a joint program at Washington State University (WSU) and the University of Idaho (UI) is seeking a natural products chemist for a tenure track, 9-month faculty position located in Pullman, WA. WSU will be the employment institution.
Duties and Responsibilities: Develop a nationally recognized and funded research program directed toward the fundamental understanding of the native cell wall architecture and its constituent polysaccharides in relation to their role in human health consistent with the mission of the WSU Agricultural Research Center (http://arc.wsu.edu/). Teach one undergraduate and one graduate course. Communicate and establish a cooperative relationship with the cereal, vegetable, grape/wine, tree fruit, and food processing industries across the region. Instruction and research activities will be conducted at both the UI and WSU campuses.
Required: Earned Ph.D. in Food Science, Nutrition, Cereal Chemistry, Plant Sciences or closely related field; Demonstrated ability to conduct basic and translational research related to structure-function relationships of plant polysaccharides and human health; Ability to plan, conduct and publish innovative high quality research that can attract significant extramural funding.
Preferred: Evidence of strong oral and written communications skills; Demonstrated ability to teach effectively; Interest in recruiting and mentoring students and others; Ability to cooperate and work with faculty teams on interdisciplinary research projects; Demonstrated ability to conduct successful postdoctoral or industrial research.
