The Farquhar lab is seeking highly motivated candidates with a recent PhD and a strong background in Molecular Cell Biology and Biochemistry as well as an extensive knowledge of signal transduction to work on a project aimed at understanding how the interplay between growth factor and G-protein mediated signaling pathways leads to oncogenic progression. We have discovered several novel signal transducing proteins that link these two important signaling pathways together and to regulation of many important cell processes (mitosis, cell migration, endocytosis, autophagy). We have further shown their dysregulation is associated with cell proliferation and cancer metastasis. The overall goal of this project is to uncover the mechanisms by which dysregulation of these signaling pathways leads to cancer progression. The ideal candidate should have demonstrated experience in spatial-temporal aspects of signaling including live cell imaging, use of fluorescent biosensors, immunofluorescence, and bioinformatics, as well as experience in tissue culture of mammalian cells, molecular cloning, expression of proteins in cultured cells, and protein purification. Ability of work as a team player, good communication skills, and a strong commitment to science are expected.
