A post-doctoral research position in computational biology is available at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. The successful applicant will develop and apply methods to study and predict the stability of antibody fragments using a combination of Molecular Dynamics simulation and our Distance Constraint Model, which is able to accurately and rapidly calculate free energies of aqueous proteins. This position will work in the group of Dr. Dennis Livesay (PI, Bioinformatics) and Dr. Donald Jacobs (co-PI, Physics). We are looking for someone with a background in structural bioinformatics and/or computational biophysics with experience running MD simulations. Expertise in protein structure, function and stability must be demonstrated. Programming proficiency is required in both scripting (shell, Sed/Awk and Perl) and in object-oriented languages (Java, C++ and/or Python). The successful candidate will be involved in applications related to: (1) characterization of stability and flexibility changes upon site directed mutations; (2) characterization of stability and flexibility changes upon antigen binding; and (3) prediction of putative allosteric sites. The appointment is for one year, possibly renewable for a second year upon satisfactory progress and continued funding.
