Postdoctoral Fellow - Neurosurgery

POSITION PURPOSE
The post-doctoral fellow will join our diverse group of basic and clinical scientists studying a broad array of neurologic disorders. The fellow will play a major role in the execution of a large, prospective study on the acute effects and recovery after mild traumatic brain injury. In addition, there will be ample opportunities to collaborate with other basic and applied scientists.
This position will provide professional development opportunities for the fellow to:
Participate in research program activities and independently perform studies to advance the goals of the principal investigator’s research program.
Assist in development of study design and execution.
Assist in large-scale, multi-center clinical research database development and management.
Analyze data and compile results from large, multi-center studies and monitor quality control processes to ensure integrity of research.
Participate in dissemination of research findings through scientific publications and professional presentations.
Expand knowledge of the grant submission process and look for opportunities to submit grants specific to identified research interests that foster independent research program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. Design and execute complex research procedures.
2. Develop and perform routine and complex analysis protocols for research programs.
3. Coordinate research study activities; lead and manage projects.
4. Help design, construct and maintain electronic, multi-center databases that support the research program.
5. Assist in developing, implementing and monitoring quality activities.
6. Contribute to and/or prepare manuscripts, grants, and abstracts for dissemination, funding, and presentation.
7. Collaborate with principle investigator in determining study design and performing statistical analyses.
8. Perform and develop routine and complex computational and database methods for implementation.
9. Participate in meetings with principle investigator and research staff and evaluate/interpret the validity of data, develop methodologies, evaluate study procedures.
10. May manage activities surrounding database creation, data collection, and data entry and data management.
11. Assist in training of students, residents and post-doctoral fellows.

Qualifications
MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Appropriate education and/or experience may be substituted on equivalent basis
Education:
PhD in neuroscience, neuropsychology, clinical psychology or a field related to the neurosciences, sports medicine or trauma.
Experience:
Experience and knowledge in human subjects research, computerized data base management, information technology applications, and statistical analysis. Experience in advanced neuroimaging methods (e.g., fMRI, DTI, etc.) is also preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Knowledge of scientific approach and methodologies. Ability to develop and follow research methodology and protocol. Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise as well as including hands-on experience with human subjects research and data base creation and analysis. Ability to design, organize, and coordinate scientific research projects. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills required.
