Great opportunity to further develop your skills in research
Work on development of development of innovative concepts, approaches and methods for grain crop simulation modelling
And help to make a difference!
CSIRO Sustainable Ecosystems is seeking to appoint a highly motivated graduate who will conduct research in the development of innovative concepts, approaches and methods for grain crop simulation modelling that improve the predictive ability of APSIM’s crop models, through analysis of existing datasets, literature review and field experiments.
More specifically you will :
Identify and solve deficiencies in our crop simulation models within the APSIM modelling system.
Undertake analysis of existing datasets, conduct new field experiments, derive improved algorithms and modelling approaches, and to test these new approaches against field data.
Publish the results of your work in journal articles.
Work closely with crop physiologists, agronomists and software engineers
You will be mentored by senior scientists as part of CSIRO’s Postdoctoral Fellows Program which aims to train early career scientists for a research role. You will be expected to communicate the outcomes of your research through presentation of results at national and international conferences and publications in relevant scientific journals.
Location: Toowoomba, Queensland
Salary: AU$81K – $88K per annum plus up to 15.4% superannuation
Ref No: Q13/03584
Tenure: 3 years
To be successful you will have:
A PhD, or will shortly satisfy the requirements for a PhD degree, in agronomy, crop/pasture physiology, plant science, simulation modelling, or a related discipline.
An understanding of the physiological principles underpinning crop growth and development.
Demonstrated ability to design, conduct and analyse field experiments examining crop growth and to derive equations or algorithms to describe these empirical data
An understanding of the principles and current applications of dynamic simulation models in agricultural science.
