Description
The successful candidate will be working in an interdisciplinary and international team and focus on cell biological aspects of ion transport processes investigated in our group. Our laboratory works on many aspects of ion transport processes, ranging from structure/function analysis and biophysics to cell biology, physiology, and role in human disease. Accordingly we use a broad array of techniques, including molecular biology, electrophysiology, morphology, biochemistry, and generation and analysis of genetically modified mice. We are focusing on CLC chloride channels and transporters, KCNQ potassium channels, and Ca-activated Cl channels. These can be found at the plasma membrane and on intracellular organelles like endosomes and lysosomes. Phenotypes caused by gene disruption in mice or genetic disease in humans include e.g. impaired endocytosis and lysosomal storage, neurodegeneration, epilepsy, and osteopetrosis. For this position, we are particularly looking for a highly motivated scientist interested in unraveling the impact of ion homeostasis in endosomes, lysosomes and other intracellular organelles on the trafficking and function of those compartments.
