CSIRO Materials Science Engineering are seeking to appoint a highly motivated graduate who will conduct research in novel photoresponsive drug delivery systems for ocular applications. This is an excellent opportunity for you to develop new capability in the area of ocular drug delivery and photoresponsive materials.

More specifically you will:

Develop and characterise biocompatible, photoresponsive materials suitable for ocular drug delivery applications.
Maintain collaborative links with Centre for Eye Research, Australia and Wenzhou Medical University (external collaborators), provide promising materials for biological evaluation and make initiatives to establish collaborations with international research groups as appropriate.
Work with other team members and provide support and/or supervision of junior staff or students, etc.
Produce high quality scientific and technical outputs including journal articles, conference papers and presentations, patents and technical reports.
Develop innovative concepts and ideas for further research.
You will be mentored by senior scientists as part of CSIRO’s Postdoctoral Fellows Program which aims to train early career scientists for a research role. You will be expected to communicate the outcomes of your research through presentation of results at national and international conferences and publications in relevant scientific journals.

Salary: AU$81K – $88K per annum plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be successful you will have:

A PhD, or will shortly satisfy the requirements for a PhD degree, in a relevant scientific discipline. Owing to the terms of CSIRO Postdoctoral Fellowships, you must not have more than 3 years relevant post doctoral experience.
Demonstrated ability to conduct innovative research in synthetic chemistry and structure characterisation applied in the areas of small molecule, polymer and/or nanomaterial synthesis.
Demonstrated experience in general characterisation techniques, such as NMR, SEC, FTIR, UV-Vis, SAXS, and microscopy techniques including SEM, TEM and demonstrated ability to learn new instrumentation techniques.
Demonstrated originality, creativity and innovation in solving problems and introducing new directions and approaches.
Ability to work with a broad range of people from varying research backgrounds and evidence of strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to publish the results of scientific research in scientific journals.
