CLOSING DATE: 15 November 2013
SALARY: £27,854-£36,298
Salary: £27,854-£36,298 pa
The salary will not be less than stated above but will comply with the EC structure for FP7-PEOPLE-2012-IAPP.
A postdoctoral position is available from 1st February 2014 to work in the group of Dr Florian Hollfelder,
University of Cambridge, Department of Biochemistry, Cambridge on identification and directed evolution of
hydrolytic and other enzymes for biotechnological applications. We will employ high throughput assays in
microfluidic droplets that allow screening of libraries (man-made and from metagenomic sources) with more
than 106 members.
Proteins will be in vitro expressed in microdroplets using expression extracts from thermophiles, to allow robust
in vitro expression screening (that is unencumbered by the constraints of cell-based evolution) at high
temperatures or typical bioreactor conditions. The project involves collaborations with the group of Jose
Berenguer and Aurelio Hidalgo (http://www2.cbm.uam.es/mkfactory.esdomain/webs/cbmso
plt_LineasInvestigacion.aspx?IdObjeto=45& ChangeLanguage=2), with three European academic collaborators
and with several biotechnology companies who are all part of an EC Marie-Curie IAAP network called Hotdops.
Applicants must have a PhD or a equivalent and should ideally have a strong background in protein
engineering, chemical biology, enzyme kinetics, molecular biology, enzyme mechanism.
At the time of recruitment by the host organisation, researchers must not have resided or carried out their main
activity (work, studies, etc) in the country of their host organisation for more than 12 months in the 3 years
immediately prior to their recruitment.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
