Job Description
* Real science, real impact!
* Conduct innovative research modelling greenhouse gas abatement in the APSIM model.
* Join CSIRO, Australia's Premier Scientific Research Organisation.
The Position:
We are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic Postdoctoral Fellow to work within the CSIRO Ecosystem Sciences Division in Brisbane to help develop efficient and cost-effective management strategies for use by farmers to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from their farms. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team working to enhance the sustainability of agricultural systems, both in Australia and overseas. The Fellow will work with scientists in the Agricultural Systems Program, and in collaboration with scientists in other CSIRO divisions and external institutions.
The initial focus of this Fellowship will be the grains farming systems across Australia, specifically improving and applying our capability to simulate processes (such as soil carbon sequestration) important in abating greenhouse gas emissions from farms. The postdoctoral fellow will conduct innovative research modelling greenhouse gas abatement in the APSIM model. In collaboration with economists, the fellow will develop and apply the model to undertake whole-farm analysis of possible management strategies in collaboration with extension staff and farm management consultants. Therefore, the successful candidate will have a proven ability to undertake original research across a range of issues including soil-plant-farm management systems, and work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams.
Location: Brisbane, Queensland, Australia
Salary: AUD$78K - AUD$88K plus up to 15.4% superannuation
Tenure: Specified Term of 3 years
Reference: Q13/03716
To be successful in this position you will need:
* A PhD (or will shortly satisfy the requirements for a PhD) in agriculture, soil science, forestry, ecology, mathematics or related discipline.
* Demonstrated theoretical and/or practical knowledge of soil-plant-climate interactions.
* Demonstrated ability to conceptualise, run and evaluate mathematical models, interpret their outputs, and to effectively manage, visualize and analyse observational and modelled datasets.
