The Position:
CSIRO offers Postdoctoral Fellowships to PhD graduates as an opportunity to launch their scientific careers. We seek a motivated and innovative postdoctoral researcher to carry out research into Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS) scale energy harvesting devices. In this role, you will develop concepts and systematic methods for efficient conversion of vibration or thermally driven energy harvesting processes. This project falls within the Sensors and Sensor Networks Transformational Capability Platform (SSN TCP), which aims to realise the potential of sensors and sensor applications by stimulating multidisciplinary collaboration on a large scale.
Successful applicants will work with leaders in the field of science and receive personal development and learning opportunities.
Specifically you will:
- Design, build, test and commission electrical and mechanical systems as part of CSIRO’s research into advanced energy harvesting, storage and control.
- Model and simulate micro and macro electromechanical systems using platforms such as Matlab, Labview and dSpace
- Design experiments and collect and interpret experimental results for presentation in high impact journals and at international conferences.
- Participate in the discovery, development, application and deployment of CSIRO science and technology.
- Collaborate with CSIRO research partners and commercial clients, requiring possible trips across Australia and internationally.
- Work with other team members and provide support and/or supervision of junior staff or students.
- Produce high quality scientific and technical outputs including journal articles, conference papers and presentations, patents and technical reports.
- Develop innovative concepts and ideas for further research.
Location: Newcastle, NSW
Salary: $81K-$88K p.a. plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be successful in this position you will need:
- A PhD, or will shortly satisfy the requirements for a PhD degree, in a relevant scientific discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct innovative research at the MEMS scale
- Demonstrated ability to develop experimental plans and pursue novel research approaches.
- Originality, creativity and innovation in solving problems and introducing new directions and approaches.
- Ability to work with a broad range of people from varying research backgrounds and evidence of strong oral and written communication skills, including a record of publishing the results of scientific research in scientific journals.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently under minimal supervision while contributing to overall team performance and proven ability to meet performance deadlines during the course of the project.
