Kyushu University (KU) is one of the top seven national universities in Japan. KU has 11 undergraduate schools, 18 graduate schools and 5 adjunct institutions, deployed at 5 major campuses. The total number of students currently amounts to 18,765, while the faculty members number 2,186. International exchange programs are also greatly encouraged at Kyushu University. With this in mind, the university accepts many overseas students each year. At present there are more than 1,700 international students from about eighty countries studying here.

2. Job Description:
The Faculty of Engineering Sciences (FES) at Kyushu University (Chikushi Campus) is seeking to establish a bilingual education and research environment. The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with the Student Support Division, undertaking tasks such as advising international students and promoting internationalization within Kyushu University.
3. Responsibilities:
・ To develop independent research relating to Green technology in either materials, energy, or environmental science, which are FES’s three main research fields, and the promotion of international research collaboration with Asian universities through the Green Asia program as well as other programs currently ongoing within FES and the Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Engineering Sciences (IGSES).
・ Lectures to graduate students; giving lectures in materials, energy, environmental science or a related field in English in an assigned department under IGSES, which is the graduate school FES is responsible for.
・ Supervising graduate students of IGSES.
・ The Campus Asia Program (Collaborative Graduate School Program for Global Human Resources Development in Energy and Environmental Science), the Leading Graduate School (Advanced Graduate Program in Global Strategy for Green Asia), and the Global COE “Novel Carbon Resources Science” are the core advanced education programs with strong international collaborations within the IGSES. Quality assurance with the English language environment has been a global trend in higher education over the last decade. Within such an educational environment, the successful candidate will be responsible for the recruitment of excellent students from our overseas collaborating institutions, as well as other potential international partner’s.
・ Lectures to undergraduate students; giving lectures at Kyushu University, Undergraduate School of Arts and Sciences.
・ Collaborating with the Kyushu University International Affairs Division and the Chikushi Campus Administration Division on the improvement of the campus-wide bilingual campaign.
4. Essential Qualifications:
Potential applicants must meet the following requirements.
- A Ph.D. in materials science, energy science, environmental science or another related field.
- Adequate research experience and professional competencies to conduct Green technology research.
- A good publication record in quality, peer-reviewed journals.
- Fluency in English, both orally and in writing. An applicant who’s native language is English would be preferable.
- The ability to work both independently and within a team.
- Knowledge and experience of working in a Japanese university environment would be an advantage.
5. Terms of Employment:
From April 1, 2014 to March 31, 2018
Upon expiry of the term, the successful candidate may be evaluated for a tenure-track position.
6. Salary:
Salary range is around 5.2 M ~ 7.8 M JPY/Year (before-tax), depending on experience and age; plus a transportation allowance.
