The mission of the Center for Cancer Genome Discovery (CCGD) at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is to facilitate genome discoveries in a many human cancer types by basic and translational research. The CCGD has established technology platforms to assist researchers in both genome-wide and gene-focused efforts such as next-generation sequencing, genotyping, somatic mutation detection and copy number analysis. We strive to be at the cutting-edge of cancer characterization, utilizing novel technologies and adapting existing technologies for the advancement of cancer research. Technologies are selected and developed with a view to discovery-oriented ventures, as well as translational medicine and clinical relevance.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
The incumbent will work within the informatics platform to develop and maintain bioinformatics capabilities for genome research in Cancer. More specifically, the responsibility of this position includes:
- General system administration various Linux servers including ensuring regular backups, managing user accounts, installing new software packages, etc.
- Maintenance of existing internal and external websites using the Perl-Catalyst framework
- Lead the development of new internal web applications for the review and reporting of next-generation sequencing results using the Apache-Struts framework.
Additional duties may include, but are not limited to: assist in running our automated Next Generation Sequencing analysis pipelines, development of cron jobs to automate running and post-run cleanup of analysis pipelines, and adding additional functionality to these pipelines.
Job Qualifications
Skills and Qualifications
· MS in bioinformatics, computer science or BA/BS and 1-3 years relevant experience.
· Demonstrated experience in Java and Perl (object-oriented) in a UNIX/Linux environment.
· Previous experience with either Catalyst or Apache Struts 2 is required. Experience with both is strongly preferred.
· Prior experience generating automated reports from data stored in a MySQL database is required. Experience developing and optimizing databases is preferred.
· Excellent communication and effective problem-solving skills; and ability to interact with multidisciplinary staff in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate should be able to work independently, prioritize and manage a variety of tasks, and shift priorities rapidly.
