The division of Metabolic Diseases at the Department for Laboratory Medicine at Karolinska Institutet is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral researcher to join the Freyer/Wredenberg group to study mitochondrial diseases using Drosophila melanogaster as model organism.
Mitochondrial dysfunction is increasingly seen as an important aspect in metabolic disease and has been implicated in a vast spectrum of different clinical phenotypes, such as proximal muscle weakness, cardiomyopathy, endocrine aberrations and ataxia.
We are interested in identifying and studying the pathophysiology and molecular basis of mutations identified in patients with mitochondrial diseases. For this, we study and/or generate genetically modified flies and patient cell lines to investigate disease mechanisms.
Entry requirements
A person is eligible for a postdoc position if he or she has obtained a PhD no more than seven years before the last date of employment as postdoc. Good documentation skills as well as proficiency in both spoken and written english is required.
The applicant preferably has experience in fly genetics and a strong background in mitochondrial genetics and molecular biology. Experience in cell culture, biochemistry or bioenergetics is of advantage. The successful candidate should be able and willing to work in a team to pursue his/her research.
