The Hospital of the University of Munich, Germany, is one of the largest and most competitive university hospitals in Germany and Europe. 45 specialized hospitals, departments and institutions harboring excellent research and education provide patient care at the highest medical level with approximately 10.000 employees.
The Institute for Stroke and Dementia Research at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich offers:
A postdoctoral position in the field of vascular biology is available in the group of Prof. Dichgans.
Description:
Our group is working on the functional characterization of novel molecular targets derived from genome-wide association and sequencing studies in atherosclerotic stroke (Dichgans M. Lancet Neurol 2007; Bellenguez et al. Nat Genet. 2012; Traylor et al. Lancet Neurol 2012; Dichgans M et al. Stroke in press). Our research program on mechanisms of atherosclerosis is supported by collaborative grants from the EU, DFG, and BMBF and embedded into the Munich biomedical research community and the Excellence Cluster SyNergy.
We are seeking a highly talented and motivated scientist who will plan and execute experimental research projects in the field of atherosclerosis research. The position may also involve supervision of PhD, MD, or master students.
The project involves the following techniques:
- experimental atherosclerosis and vascular injury in global and conditional / cell-type specific knock-out / knock-in mice.
- bone marrow transplantations
- FACS mediated sorting of immune cells and immunohistology
- proteomics (in collaboration with the group of M. Mann, Martinsried)
- real-time PCR and gene expression analysis
- systemic administration of specific antagonists/agonists
- functional in vitro assays with primary murine and human cells
- in vivo imaging of immune-cell recruitment into atherosclerotic lesions
Your profile:
Eligible candidates should have experience with vascular mouse models, immunological and molecular biology techniques, hold a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree, and have a strong motivation and team spirit. They should have the enthusiasm and driving force to bring a scientific question to the utmost end. English skills written and spoken are mandatory. We offer a vibrant research environment, excellent equipment and close interaction to benefit from the broad expertise of various groups of our institute (www.isd-muc.de).
