The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) is one of the world’s most influential cancer research institutes. Our mission is to make the discoveries that defeat cancer. We have a long and distinguished history of research with a major impact on the outcome for cancer patients. Our unique partnership with The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust (RMH) makes us the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe, performing high quality original basic research and translational studies. Under the leadership of Chief Executive Professor Alan Ashworth FRS, we are committed to attracting, developing and retaining the best minds in the world. The ICR was ranked as the UK’s top academic research centre in the 2008 Higher Education Funding Council Research Assessment Exercise. Based on our publication record, citations and impact we rank among the world’s leading cancer research centres.
A position for a Post-doctoral Training Fellow is available in 2014 in the Protein Networks Laboratory (led by Dr. Paul Huang) at The Institute of Cancer Research based in Chelsea. The project will be to employ targeted proteomics to study extracellular matrix signalling in cancer. The aim of the project is to generate high-density proteomic datasets to investigate the mechanisms by which extracellular matrix composition drives breast and brain cancer biology [see www.icr.ac.uk/proteinnetworks for more information and publications].
This is an ideal opportunity for a committed and enthusiastic scientist to apply network biology in the mechanistic understanding of cell-matrix interactions. The successful candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a well-equipped laboratory.
Applicants will hold a PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cancer Biology or a similar discipline, and have good laboratory and analytical skills with experience in working in a collaborative environment. Cell and molecular biology technical knowledge is essential. We are particularly interested in candidates with previous experience in cancer biology. signal transduction and matrix biology. A demonstrable knowledge in protein mass spectrometry, in particular targeted proteomics (Eg. MRM/SRM) would also be desirable. Candidates are expected to have at least one first author peer reviewed publication.
Starting salary will be in the range £28,425 – £34,944 p.a. inclusive based on relevance of skills and postdoctoral experience. The appointment is offered on a fixed term contract of 24 months in the first instance.
