Postdoctoral Associate in Quasars/ AGN research. The Department of Physics at Virginia Tech seeks a Postdoctoral Associate to work with professor Arav in the general area of quasar outflows, warm absorbers and their influence on cosmological structure formation. The successful candidate may participate in any of several aspects of the program: ground and space-based observations; spectral analysis and photoionization modeling of the data; dynamical modeling; AGN feedback associated with the outflows; and relevant atomic calculations. The successful candidate will join an active multi-disciplinary group working on AGN outflows with national and international collaborations, programs on various space-and-ground-based telescopes, and superb computational capabilities.
The Astrophysics group at Virginia Tech is undergoing rapid expansion, with interests in active galaxies, galaxy surveys, the interstellar medium, gamma-ray bursts, and primordial black holes. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to contribute to many aspects of the Astrophysics program.
Required Qualifications:
-Applicants should have a PhD in astronomy or astrophysics.
-Strong work habits and the ability to work independently as well as with a research group.
-Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel in the organization.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with UV and/or optical spectroscopy, is advantageous.
