A postdoctoral position is immediately available to study epigenetic modifications in highly prevalent metabolic and developmental diseases (e.g. diabetes and obesity). The successful candidate will be involved in biomarker discovery for prevention/ intervention of the disease in utero, or early childhood. The biomarker discovery process will focus on molecular biology techniques and Next Generation sequencing approaches to study modulations in non-coding RNA, DNA methylation and histone modifications.
Responsibilities:
• Planning, conducting and interpreting the research experiments with minimal supervision
• Use high-throughput methodologies to validate Next Generation sequencing data and identify the important candidates
• Use molecular approaches for downstream mechanistic follow-up of the candidates identified through Next Generation sequencing
• Develop methodologies as well as troubleshoot the experimental shortcomings
• Prepare scientific publications and present at international meetings
• Keep track of recent findings in the scientific field
Requirements:
• Ph.D. in Molecular Biology/Genomics or relevant areas
• Research experience in basic molecular biology techniques such as DNA and RNA extraction, cloning, gene expression analysis by RT-QPCR, RNAi, microRNA, lncRNA, chromatin immunoprecipitation and protein immuno- blotting. Previous work with methods relevant to Next Generation sequencing is a significant plus.
• Experience in cell tissue culture. Ability to work on stem cells and human tissue is a plus
• Good command in verbal and scientific communication
• Proven track record in research and laboratory work in the form of publications, and ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment.
