We offer two positions (1 Post-doc and 1 PhD student) in the Chronophysiology Group (Prof. Dr. Henrik Oster) at the Medical Department I, University of Lübeck, Germany to study clock- to-clock communication and the interaction of central and peripheral clocks in the regulation of physiology (endocrine systems and energy metabolism) in mice. The PhD project will be part of the Lübeck Graduate School „Adipocyte-Brain Crosstalk“ which offers further research and soft skills training. Contracts will be initially for 2 (post-doc) and 3 (PhD) years with possible extensions. Starting date is April 2014. Application deadline: Feb 15, 2014.
The mammalian circadian timing system is composed of a central pacemaker in the SCN and subsidiary oscillators in peripheral tissues. Circadian clocks play a major role in orchestrating our daily metabolism and physiology. Our main research interest is to explore the interplay between central and peripheral circadian clocks, and to identify the underling molecular signalling mechanisms and the means by which systemic and local timers affect cellular physiology. To this aim, we employ diverse approaches including biochemical and molecular biology methods, immune and behavioral assays in transgenic mice.
