Aalto University is a new university based on a century of experience. Created from a high-profile merger between three leading universities in Finland – the Helsinki School of Economics, Helsinki University of Technology and the University of Art and Design Helsinki – Aalto University opens up new possibilities for strong multidisciplinary education and research. The university has 20 000 students and a staff of 5 000 including 350 professors.
As a living and work environment, Finland is consistently ranked highly in quality-of-life. Finland has been selected as the world’s best country to live in (Newsweek, 2010), and it is in the top 10 of the most highly educated nations in the world (OECD, 2013). The capital city Helsinki has been ranked as the World's Most Livable City (Monocle, 2011). It is the 2nd happiest place in the world according to a 2007 OECD study.
The Department of Radio Science and Engineering at the Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering is presently seeking to hire outstanding individual for
Postdoctoral Researcher Position
to promote its research agenda in the field of measurements, modelling, and emulation of radio propagation channels and antennas for the next-generation mobile communication systems.
Main tasks and requirements
Research and teaching at the Department of Radio Science and Engineering focuses on understanding the physics of electromagnetic fields and waves on all frequencies up to the terahertz region and beyond, and applying this knowledge to the benefit of the society. One of the core research themes in the Department is investigating the potential of radio systems operating at the millimeterwave frequency bands as candidates for the future generation mobile wireless networks. Another core subject which we put emphasis in the Department is emulation of radio channels in a compact space, e.g., in an anechoic chamber, for mobile devise testing. The subject also has strong relevance to the realization of the future generation wireless networks.
In addition to above mentioned research works, the person hired is expected to participate in the supervision of students and teaching related to their research topics. The candidate is expected to conduct high quality research as a part of a research group, participate in project management and acquisition as well as in teaching and instruction of M.Sc. and doctoral students.
The candidates are expected to have a doctoral degree in Radio Science and Engineering or a closely related area and a good track record in scientific research. Efficient and successful completion of studies is considered an additional merit. Good knowledge of electromagnetic theories, radio frequency measurements, radio channel models, and radio communication standards is required for this position. Good command of English in communication, reporting, and scientific writing is a necessary prerequisite.
Salary, contract and place of work
Aalto University follows the salary system of Finnish universities. The starting salary, depending on experience and qualifications, is 3000-4000
