Applications are invited for a full time postdoctoral fellow to work in the School of Clinical and Experimental Medicine (CEM), in the College of Medical and Dental Science at the University of Birmingham. The College has a long-standing strength in clinical and translational cardiovascular research that is further supported by recent strategic appointments and by developments such as the Institute for Translational Medicine.
Your work will help to understand novel mechanisms of heart failure and atrial fibrillation with a focus on the early and genetic predisposition to these diseases. You will be joining a young, growing, internationally networked research group studying translational mechanisms of heart disease, led by Larissa Fabritz and Paulus Kirchhof. You can find more information on the research group at http://www.birmingham.ac.uk/research/activity/mds/domains/cardio-resp-neuro/cardiovascular-sciences/heart-failure-arrhythmias/index.aspx
We are looking for a candidate who is committed to independent scientific work in a cooperative environment. If you have a track record for successful scientific work – ideally involving research into heart disease – and a PhD in biology, veterinary medicine, imaging, or molecular medicine and strong experimental experience, preferably with a cardiovascular background, you are well suited for this position.
Experience in molecular biology techniques, “-omics” and “functional analyses of cardiac function, ideally prior cardiac electrophysiology experience, would be desirable. Furthermore, immuno-histology and histology, ideally with cardiovascular specimen, will be helpful. An animal licence (ideally home office modules 1-4 or equivalent) is required, and experience with transgenic mice is desired.
The post has an immediate start date and is fixed term until 8th January 2017….
