Postdoctoral position to study Protein-Protein Interactions and their roles in Signal Transduction using X-ray crystallography and solution NMR spectroscopy
Brown University, Providence, RI, USA
How we sense and react to our environment is communicated in the cell by vast networks of highly dynamic, interacting proteins. We want to understand how these signals are communicated in the cell at atomic resolution. To answer this question we are looking to add a postdoctoral co-worker to our interdisciplinary team. Our interest is to understand protein-protein interactions and protein dynamics in the framework of cell signaling, with a focus in phosphorylation signaling by kinases and phosphatases in eukaryotes and toxin-antitoxin systems in prokaryotes. Recent papers include: PNAS (2014, early edition),http://www.pnas.org/content/early/2014/02/28/1317395111.abstract; PLoS Biology (2013), 11:2.02; Structure (2012), 20, 1746-1756, Science Signaling (2012), 5:255; PLoS Pathogens (2009), 5:12 and JBC (2013) 288, 1286-1294.
We principally use X-ray crystallography for protein structure determination, but also use NMRspectroscopy and small angle X-ray scattering. Structural biology facilities at Brown University (http://brown.edu/research/facilities/structural-biology/) includes a Rigaku FR-E+ Superbright rotating Cu anode X-ray generator with two ports (one for crystal diffraction and one forSAXS), and a 500 MHz and 850 MHz Bruker spectrometer, both with cryoprobes. We employ other biophysical techniques including circular dichroism and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC), DLS among others.
We are looking for a talented and motivated coworker, who aims to become an independent researcher scientist. Prior experience with protein NMR or X-ray crystallography is essential. The Page laboratory provides a stimulating and friendly working environment. Brown University, an Ivy League institution, is located in Providence, Rhode Island, less than on hour away from Boston and three hours away from New York City. Starting date, project details and salary are negotiable. Please send your resume, overview of your scientific interests and career goals as well as contact details of three referees able to provide references by e-mail toRebecca_page@brown.edu….
