Two experimental postdoctoral research assistants in quantum control of nanodevices are required for up to 36 months each from 1 April 2014. Applicants will have research experience in one or more of: nanoscale devices, molecular electronics, quantum electronics, cryogenic measurements, microwave cavities, electron paramagnetic resonance. The posts are part of a multidisciplinary international project “Experimental Tests of Quantum Reality” led by Professor Andrew Briggs.
The project will investigate the nature of quantum reality by testing specific predictions of quantum theory using nanoelectronic devices. The planned experiments will investigate quantum interference in molecular nanodevices and single donor spins in silicon nanodevices. The posts are funded by the Templeton World Charity Foundation, together with the Oxford Martin School and EPSRC. They offer an excellent opportunity to make progress towards emerging quantum technologies through pursuing the deeper foundational questions.
By the start date applicants must have completed a doctorate in a relevant physical science and have an outstanding track record of research and publications, commensurate with the stage in career. Willingness and ability to engage with others in deeper theoretical and philosophical questions are essential for these posts.
The closing date for applications is 12.00 midday on Wednesday 12 March 2014 with interviews currently planned for 1 April 2014.
