Post-doctorial Researcher in Biostatistics
King's College London
Location: City Of London
Salary: £33,967
Hours: Full Time
Contract: Contract / Temporary
Closes: 17th July 2014
Job Ref: WMJE197314PB
The MRC Centre for Transplantation of King’s College London wishes appoint a Post-doctoral Statistician to work on the FP7 funded BIO-DrIM consortium in biomarker-based trials. The BIO-DrIM (BIOmarker-Driven personalized IMmunosuppression) is an EU FP7 funded project with the object of implementing biomarker-driven strategies for personalizing immunosuppression. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual with good communication skills, and experience with statistical analysis in clinical and/or genetics research. Translational research for personalised medicine is at the forefront of King’s medical research programme, and the results of the BIO-DrIM consortium have the potential of influencing clinical practice, as well as inspiring future research of biomarker discovery. The appointee will have the opportunity to gain experience as trial statistician, as well as expertise in bioinformatics analysis of transcriptomics data. The post will be jointly managed by Dr Maria Hernandez-Fuentes and Dr Irene Rebollo-Mesa. Dr Maria Hernandez-Fuentes, the scientific lead of BIO-DrIM at King’s College London, leads a large programme of research on biomarkers for the prediction of transplantation outcomes, including transplant rejection and transplantation tolerance.
Dr Irene Rebollo-Mesa, BIO-DrIM’s senior statistician, has extensive experience in the statistical analysis of biomarker data for prediction of transplantation outcomes, and is now based at the King’s Clinical trials Unit, part of KCL’s Biostatistics Department. The post will be based both at Guy’s Campus, for interaction with the MRC Centre for Transplantation team, where Dr Maria Hernandez-Fuentes is based; and at Denmark Hill Campus, to benefit from the interaction with the biostatistics department, and the King’s Clinical Trials Unit, where Dr Irene Rebollo is based. The department was awarded the only MRC Centre of Research in Transplantation in the UK and aims to translate basic discovery into new therapeutic, diagnostic and prognostic applications. King’s College London and Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, together with strategic partners including King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust form the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Comprehensive Biomedical Research Centre (BRC). The Centre has a strong focus on translational research taking advances in basic medical research out of the laboratory and into the clinical setting. Candidates should possess a PhD in a relevant subject area (clinical trials, bioinformatics, statistics, or genetics with a heavy analytic component). Knowledge of data mining, machine learning, how to process and analyse data from microarray experiments and Clinical trial design and monitoring will be highly valued.
Interviews will be held on 23 July 2014. Equality of opportunity is College policy. The salary for this role will be within the grade 6 scale at £31,644 per annum plus £2,323 London Allowance per annum.
