Post Doctoral Scientist – Targeting G-protein coupled receptors in human disease

The Medical Research Council Toxicology Unit, located at the University of Leicester, is an internationally renowned institution delivering field-changing mechanistic insights into toxicology and disease.
We are looking to appoint a post doctoral scientist to join the cell signalling group led by Professor Andrew Tobin to work on a project investigating the role of a family of G-protein coupled receptors called the free fatty acid receptor family and in collaboration with Professor Graeme Milligan and the pharmaceutical company Astra Zeneca. This project will investigate the basic biology of the FFAR-family of receptors and also establish, if targeting these receptors can be effective in treating human disease such as type II diabetes.
The successful candidate will join a highly experienced team of scientists involved in a broad range of cell signalling programmes from which they will gain novel techniques and progressive research approaches. This project specifically will use a range of techniques including molecular pharmacology, biochemistry and transgenic animals. There will also be the opportunity to work at the Astra Zeneca laboratories and at the University of Glasgow.
Candidates should have a PhD in a biological discipline, have a progressive and hard working approach to research and have published articles in international journals.
This is a four year position with a starting salary in the range £28,648 – £30,486 per annum.
