Postdoc in cardiovascular biomechanics at Weill Cornell Medical College : New York, NY, United States
Dalio Institute of Cardiovascular imaging at Weill Cornell Medical College, Cornell University has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral fellow position to pursue research in the fields of image-based computational biomechanics for heart valves. The candidate has opportunities to collaborate with internationally renowned cardiologists and cardiac surgeons at the institute, to develop computational fluid dynamics and fluid structure interaction models to study valvular hemodynamics and mechanics, then associate abnormalities in structure, material properties, and mechanic loads with aortic and mitral valve disease. The appointment will be a full-time for an initial period of 12 months, with annual renewal contingent upon performance.
Ideal applicants should have a PhD degree in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, applied mathematics, aerospace Engineering or related fields. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in at least two of the followings:
1) biomedical imaging of cardiovascular structures and functions,
2) constitutive modeling of soft tissue (nonlinear, hyperelastic, viscoelastic materials), and
3) computational fluid dynamics or fluid-solid interaction simulation of blood flow and tissue mechanics in cardiovascular systems.
Previous experiences with computational simulation packages including Abaqus, Ansys, or dedicated in-house solvers are strongly preferred. Excellent collaborative and communication skills, strong proficiency in English is required.
Knowledge of cardiovascular physiology, medical device design, image analysis, computer-aided design, and optimization is a plus. Interested candidates should send a cover letter and CV with contact information of two references and relevant publications in a single PDFdocument electronically to: Dr. Guanglei Xiong (gux2003 at med.cornell.edu).
