Employer: American Museum of Natural History
Date Posted: 05/18/2015
Application Deadline: 11/15/2015
Job Description
The Richard Gilder Graduate School at the American Museum of Natural History (RGGS @ AMNH) seeks highly qualified applicants for our 2016-2017 Postdoctoral Fellowships programs. Postdoctoral Fellows may conduct research in any area supported by AMNH science divisions (interdisciplinary projects are possible and encouraged): Anthropology, Invertebrate Zoology, Paleontology, Physical Sciences, and Vertebrate Zoology. Newly graduated or soon-to-graduate Ph.D.s may apply.
The Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Program at the American Museum of Natural History provides training to postdoctoral investigators to carry out a specific project within a limited time period. Applicants must contact an AMNH curator(s) in their field(s) well before the deadline to discuss the feasibility of their project before applying. Appointments are typically made for up to two years, although some special programs may have longer terms. Postdoctoral Fellows are expected to be in residence at the Museum. In addition to a competitive salary, limited relocation, research, and publication support is provided.
The AMNH Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Program also includes the potential for support through special programs, if a fellow’s area of specialization includes: 1) the study of North American natural history, particularly modern or fossil terrestrial and freshwater fauna (Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Fund), 2) marine biology and paleontology (Lerner-Gray Fund for Marine Research), or 3) research in biology, with an emphasis on genomics and computational biology, that informs human and medical research through understanding other species or advances our understanding of the evolution and diversity of species and the "tree of life" (Gerstner Scholars program, generously supported by the Gerstner Family Foundation). A separate program, the Frank M. Chapman Memorial Fund, supports research in Ornithology (http://www.amnh.org/our-research/vertebrate-zoology/ornithology/grants).
Complete applications will be due by 5pm, November 15, 2015.
